Jamdani refers to a weaving technique especially extra weft motifs woven into a fine, often semitransparent / sheer (= muslin or cotton) base.
Motifs are usually floral, geometric, or inspired by nature. They appear to float on the cloth.
Origin: Bengal region (India & Bangladesh). Dhakai Jamdani is very famous. Also Uppada Jamdani is from Andhra Pradesh, known for lighter silk versions.
Usually handloom, which means quite labourintensive, so good authentic Jamdani sarees can be costly.
